Kids & Teens Capoeira | Evolve Miami Team

For parents of kids & teens

A place to move, make, and belong.

Capoeira brings movement, rhythm, music, creativity, decision-making, culture, and social learning into one practice. Young people can begin exactly where they are.

Section 01

Movement, music, and participation.

In one class a young person may move, listen to a rhythm, work with a partner, solve a problem in real time, learn songs, and connect to the culture around the art.

Section 02

Why this combination matters.

These are parent-friendly descriptions of what the practice can support. They are not medical claims, and each child develops in their own way.

01

Rhythm + movement

Working with rhythm, including the berimbau, can support timing, balance, and organized movement.

02

Focus in real time

Reading distance, timing, and a partner’s intention can support focus, planning, and decision-making.

03

Adaptability

New movements, changing directions, and balancing can support coordination, body awareness, and adaptability.

04

An immersive hour

Rhythm, singing, and movement can feel calming and absorbing; many students report leaving more focused and settled.

05

Social learning

Young people learn by watching, participating, and belonging with people around them.

06

Culture

Students connect to a living Afro-Brazilian tradition through movement, music, language, stories, and community.

Section 03

Kids start with a lot of doors open.

Age-appropriate movement, games, and the basic foundations give children many ways to learn and find what interests them.

What classes build

  • Coordination, balance, rhythm, and listening.
  • Creativity and self-expression through movement.
  • Social skills and working with a partner.
  • Confidence that comes from doing something they could not do before.
  • Cultural connection through Brazilian history, music, language, and traditions.

Section 04

A serious room, and a welcoming one.

Teens are not taught like small children. The training is real, the standards are real, and nobody is judged for starting where they start.

What teens can develop

  • Strength, mobility, coordination, and endurance.
  • Creativity and personal expression through their own game.
  • Confidence built through evidence and practice.
  • Responsibility for progress and room to help newer students.
  • Social connection and cultural understanding.

A positive challenge

Capoeira gives teenagers something many environments do not: a place where being creative, physical, musical, and social are the same activity. The goal is not instant confidence; it is showing up and becoming more capable over time.

First-Class Guide

Helpful parent questions

Simple answers before the first class.

Does my child need experience?
No. Students begin with accessible movement and foundations that adapt to their experience and confidence.
Is this only for athletic kids or teens?
No. Capoeira has many entrances: movement, music, rhythm, culture, games, partnership, and creativity. Students do not need to arrive flexible, coordinated, musical, or confident.
What makes Capoeira different?
It combines movement, rhythm, music, cultural learning, problem-solving, creativity, and community in one practice rather than isolating them.
