Student Handbook

Policies & Information

Basic rules to follow at our school to help us stay organized. These guidelines exist to create a safe, respectful, and focused training environment for everyone.

Studio Rules

01

Punctuality

Policy

We understand that schedules can sometimes be complicated. We need to be flexible with students, but students also need to be committed.

Implementation

Students who arrive more than 15 minutes late should not participate in the class unless they have informed the instructor in advance via text message. The instructor should clearly communicate this rule and act with coherence and understanding.

02

Class Behavior

Policy

Students should arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled class time, dressed and ready.

Implementation

Be well-mannered and courteous to others. Cell phone use is not allowed during class unless specified by the instructor.

03

Uniforms

Policy

Uniforms are required to maintain focus, organization, and professionalism. Wearing the uniform is required for all classes.

Implementation

  • Saturdays (official): White pants and white shirt only.
  • Regular class: White pants, training pants, or leggings with capoeira shirts or tank tops.
  • CapoFit class: Training pants, leggings, or shorts (not too short) with capoeira shirts or tank tops.
  • Presentations & events: Official uniform (white pants and shirt) unless a specific outfit is required (batizado, show, etc.).
  • Rodas de vadiação (informal): Free attire allowed — except shorts.
  • Shoes: Train barefoot unless there are physical limitations. Use indoor-only shoes for hygiene. Shoes are allowed for outdoor activities.
  • Students must keep uniforms neat and clean.

04

Hygiene

Policy

Students should maintain good hygiene habits.

Implementation

Wear clean clothes to class and take precautions to avoid unpleasant odors that could affect other students' experiences.

05

Studio Etiquette

Policy

Respect the studio rules to maintain a clean and safe training environment.

Implementation

Street shoes are not allowed in the studios. No food or beverages, except for water, are permitted.

06

Your Belongings

Policy

It is important to help maintain the studio clean and organized.

Implementation

Please make sure to collect your items — especially towels and water bottles — after each class. Any unclaimed items will be discarded after one week. Please throw your trash in the trash.

07

Class Instruction

Policy

Only the designated instructor should teach.

Implementation

Other individuals, regardless of their rank, should participate as students to maintain a healthy and harmonious learning environment.

08

Parents' Behavior in Class

Policy

Parents are allowed to watch class, but they should let the teacher direct the class without disruption and be respectful of the coach's authority. Parents who get involved in the class will be asked to remove themselves from the studio during class.

Implementation

Parents should support their children quietly and respectfully during class, avoid interrupting the instructor, and adhere to studio policies.

09

Technology & Phones

Policy

Use of phones is allowed during rodas only for videos and photos.

Implementation

During class, phone use is allowed only when determined by the instructor. Avoid talking on the phone or texting. In case of emergency, notify the instructor to prevent misunderstandings.

Attendance & Tuition

01

Attendance & Make-Ups

Policy

Attendance is crucial for your progress.

Implementation

Students must attend their regularly scheduled classes. We offer multiple options during the week for each program level, and students can take any class from their level or below. Students who are more than 15 minutes late without notifying the teacher will not be allowed to participate. There will be no pro-rated tuition or refunds for missed classes.

02

Scheduled & Unforeseen Closures

Policy

Evolve will be closed for many federal holidays and each winter between Christmas and New Year. Your program tuition includes these closures.

Implementation

If class is canceled due to inclement weather or any other reason, it will be held online. Students will be notified by email, text, and/or announcements in our WhatsApp group. If class cannot be held online, a special make-up session will be arranged.

03

Programs & Tuition

Policy

New students will enroll in a program of a specific length.

Implementation

  • To promote focus and a sense of community, we do not allow drop-ins.
  • Tuition is due before the introduction session.
  • Payment options include monthly, single, biannual, or quarterly payments depending on program length.
  • Tuition is non-transferable and expires after six months.
  • Written notice must be provided 30 days in advance for cancellation.
  • Private lessons and special events must be paid in advance.
  • There are no refunds.

04

Price

Policy

Price is based on the value of each level of classes and the commitment to growing in capoeira.

Implementation

Price is not based on the number of classes taken per week.

05

Additional Costs

Policy

Additional fees may apply for annual events and special workshops.

Implementation

Prices will vary depending on the student's current program level.

06

Leveling Up

Policy

Students can choose to advance to the next level or stay in their current level.

Implementation

To advance, students must complete 70% of the previous level's requirements through participation and/or extra work outside class. More information is available in the program level book.

Conduct & Community

01

Relationships

Policy

Promote a positive, community-building attitude.

Implementation

Aim to strengthen the group as a whole, solve problems constructively, and avoid drama, gossip, and conflicts. Students who engage in negative behavior will be warned and, if it continues, may be asked to leave the group.

02

Roda Etiquette

Policy

Maintain focus and respect during the roda.

Implementation

Avoid unnecessary distractions, conversations, and joking. Use capoeira responsibly, with respect and loyalty, and avoid cowardice.

03

Students are not prohibited from participating in activities with other groups.

Implementation

The only concern is ensuring safety.

04

Conduct in Our & Other Groups

Policy

Always act with respect, honesty, and integrity.

Implementation

Avoid participating in or spreading lies, gossip, and anything that goes against our group's values of creating a healthy, inclusive environment. Be mindful of relationships and take responsibility for your actions, accepting necessary consequences.

05

Event Conduct

Policy

Contribute positively at events.

Implementation

Show humility and respect for capoeira and the event's environment. Respect the host and other participants, aiming to build and improve the community, and avoid gossip and drama.

06

Feedback

Policy

Everyone is encouraged to contribute to the group's growth.

Implementation

Provide feedback at the right time, in the right way, with the right tone, and always with the intent of growth. Consider whether the feedback is necessary and for the group's benefit. Remember, decisions are made by the group leader, and disagreements should not be taken personally.

07

Work Responsibilities

Policy

Those working under the group's name and the master's name must act responsibly.

Implementation

Maintain clear communication to avoid conflicts. Agreements regarding timing, location, duration, expectations, salary, and any other important details should be documented in a contract and agreed upon by both parties.

Administration

Implementation

In-person students should complete these forms during their first class.

03

Updating Your Account Information

Policy

Account information should be kept up to date.

Implementation

Final Note

These rules are designed for the positive growth of the collective. Any student who disrespects these rules without a solid reason will be asked to leave the group. Let's work together to create a supportive, respectful, and thriving capoeira community.
